OWU Students' Guide to Course Registration

Registering for classes is one of the most exciting times of the year, but it can also be

incredibly overwhelming. Although the process may seem daunting to those who are

new on campus or have blocked out memories of the previous registration, Ohio

Wesleyan offers a fairly straightforward process.

For students who have not yet started the process, the best first step is reaching out to

an academic advisor. Advisors can help with questions about prerequisites, professors,

and staying on track for graduation. While Ohio Wesleyan does require an advisory

meeting before students will have access to registration, academic advisors are there to

help, and students should utilize them as a resource.

“Registering for classes felt so draining last year, but my advisor was super helpful and

made sure I left feeling confident,” sophomore Norah Hyman recalled.

An academic advisor can help navigate the Self-Service portal, in which all of next

semester's classes can be found. However, students should explore the site beforehand

to familiarize themselves with their options.

It is also important to remember the minimum and maximum units that students can

take. Falling within these limits determines eligibility for scholarships and athletics.

Students can register for between 3.25 and 5.5 units per semester without petitioning

the Academic Status Committee.

However, the university's website advises that “Most students can complete their degree in four years (eight semesters) by earning 4.25-4.75 units each fall and spring.”

At Ohio Wesleyan University, registration is staggered by the number of credits students have earned. Registration will open on October 27 for students classified as seniors, November 3 for Juniors, November 17 for sophomores, and November 20 for freshmen.

Ohio Wesleyan’s website encourages students to “Check your Self-Service Profile to

review your class Level.”

Registration will begin bright and early at 7 a.m. on the day individuals have been

assigned. The early wake-up is not popular amongst students, with many describing the

early morning as unnecessary.

“I just wish it wasn’t at 7 in the morning,” said sophomore Ximena Prieto when asked

about her opinions on registration.

In addition to morning fatigue, students should also keep in mind that they will be

battling other students for WiFi access. Some students have even voiced that it may be

a good idea to have multiple devices set up or move to a different location.

Hannah Wagner suggests “[using] a computer that is remotely connected to the internet

in order to avoid lag.”

Similarly, Julia Ryan recalls being told to “go to a coffee shop and get of the school’s

wifi.”

With any other questions about registration, students should visit the Spring 2026

Registration Guide on the Ohio Wesleyan website.

Here, steps “for a less stressful and more successful registration experience” are

outlined. No matter how many times students go through registration, the period marks

an exciting opportunity to start fresh. Preparing ahead for registration allows students to focus on the moment of progress rather than racing to get into a class.
