The Role of the Ohio Wesleyan School Ambassador: with Carolina Sola

For many prospective students who are looking to continue their academic career at a University. They usually get their first look at what a university offers through an open house speech, a campus tour, or even a TikTok video. The face behind those experiences is a school ambassador. For Ohio Wesleyan, the school ambassador is Sophomore Carolina Sola.

Carolina Sola shared that one of the most rewarding things about her position is “being able to share all of the amazing opportunities and friendships that OWU offers” (Sola, ‘28).

Between speaking at open-houses and helping the OWU communications marketing team with content, being an ambassador serves as a bridge between prospective students and the current Ohio Wesleyan student body.

Ambassadors help the incoming freshman envision themselves at OWU by answering questions about academics, study spots, different extracurriculars, student life, and the transition to college life with a genuine student perspective.

Beyond interacting with the prospective OWU students, the role offers many networking and leadership opportunities.

“I love being able to get to know the incoming freshman; additionally, I like having the opportunity to meet with the board of trustees, President Matt Vandenburg, and admissions” (Sola, ‘28).

She emphasized how the position has allowed her to build meaningful professional relationships with the university and the community.

The position also expands into digital storytelling. With Sola working alongside the communications and marketing team, she is given the opportunity to help create content on all different types of social media platforms. From highlighting campus events to curating student interviews on the Jay, she plays a key role in shaping how OWU is perceived in the online world.

“I enjoy making content for the OWU marketing team,” she explained,  noting how this part of the ambassador role is something she enjoys inside and outside of the position.

Through networking, leadership, public speaking, and creating content, the OWU ambassador role is extremely fulfilling for professional and personal experiences. It offers more than campus involvement; it offers experience that will be very beneficial for her after she graduates.

By connecting with prospective students and representing OWU at the highest levels, her role not only shares what makes OWU special, but it also strengthens her own confidence and communication skills as a professional individual.
