It all began in 1889 with Bun’s, the first established restaurant in downtown Delaware. Today, it still remains as one of the town's most valued and staple dining options. Since its establishment, more than 15 other sit-down restaurants have joined the streets offering a range of cuisines and fun-filled menus, and those in the community gather to enjoy the company and delicious foods. As the town grows, so do the local businesses.
Delaware is looking forward to its newest, latest, and freshest addition: BLT Winery & Spirits.
Plans of replacing and renovating J. Gumbos on E. Williams Street began this past summer, as this new feature will be like no other in town. Setting it apart from any other known restaurant, BLT Winery & Spirits will have an accessible rooftop patio for anyone to enjoy, elevating the space for wine and scenic views of the town from above.
Owner John Cordas has dreamed and envisioned opening a winery downtown, but nothing had felt quite right until this particular space became available. Cordas is also the owner of Shorty’s Pizza, Sand Bar Station, and O’Nelly’s Sports Pub, all minutes away from Delaware.
“This is something we’ve been working on for a while,” stated Cordas.
With experience in the business world alongside a passion for wine, Cordas proposes that those who may be connoisseurs, newbies, or in between join him and his staff this summer to celebrate his dedication to wine and community. He aims to create an atmosphere that is like no other and bring a fresh look to the streets of Delaware.
Not only will wine be the focal point, but there will be a precisely designed food menu, offering selections of breads and hors d’oeuvres that are purposely designed to bring a spark and complement their hand-selected wines. The overall goal of Cordas is not to just create another business, but rather to bring attention to wine and the experience it comes with.
This new chapter, the ever-evolving town embraces the historical feel with a sense of community. Another place for all to gather is always exciting, and BLT Winery & Spirits is elevating - quite literally- the experience of dining. As construction updates are being made often and anticipation builds, residents are ready to bring it all to life.
