In order to be eligible for the semester, it is required to have 3.50 credits; however, students know the complications and stress that may arise during class registration, even the time leading up to it.
From choosing preferred courses with your favorite professor, figuring out how they fit into your schedule, all while ensuring that they align with graduation and your major and/or minor requirements, can quickly become overwhelming.
Sometimes a course will fill up rapidly or doesn't fall in a convenient time slot, possibly leading to a credit deficiency. Now this is where students panic the most. The pressure and worries of not having enough credits can be resolved with the beloved activity courses OWU has to offer.
These courses are often unknown, overlooked, or underappreciated. From freshman to senior – athletes or regular everyday students alike, everyone has the ability and opportunity to include them in your fall or spring semester.
Each activity course is 0.25 credits, and there are endless options, including:
Pickleball
Bowling
Racquetball
Ultimate Frisbee
Scuba
Golf
Triathlon Training
Tae Kwon Do
Karate
Yoga
Jujitsu
Mindfulness
The majority of the courses offer beginner-friendly classes, and if you wish to continue, you are able to take the second or intermediate level. Having these options allows students to fulfill those necessary credits all while getting physically active 2 to 3 times a week, depending on the course.
Whether indoor or outdoor, students have found fulfillment and it often allows a break in their day.
Grace Humphrey ‘28, who participated in bowling, stated, “It was a great opportunity to let go of all my academics, and it allowed me to do something unserious and laidback while hanging with friends. I highly recommend it to any other student who is thinking of doing them!”
A double whammy, no more stress and frustration in finding those credits during the registration period, and a break from lab or class. Now that’s a solution. A great way to experience a new sport, meet new people, and simply forget about the homework.
Activity courses are growing in popularity around the campus, but are still being ignored – so here is your reminder to consider an activity course that can easily increase those credits.
