Tri Delta and Kappa Kappa Gamma Celebrate 100 Years at OWU

Two of Ohio Wesleyan’s oldest sororities, Delta Delta Delta and Kappa Kappa Gamma, celebrated their 100th anniversaries on campus during this year’s Homecoming and Family Weekend. The milestone brought alumni back to Delaware from across the country for a weekend full of memories, reunions, and tradition.

Both groups were founded at OWU in 1924 and have been part of campus life ever since. Over the years, Tri Delta and Kappa Kappa Gamma have built communities centered on leadership, service, and friendship—and this fall’s centennial was all about honoring that history while looking to the future.

Tri Delta’s Delta Upsilon chapter filled the weekend with events, including a reception at the Ross Art Museum, an open house at the chapter house, and a tailgate at the homecoming game. They ended the weekend with a Centennial Celebration dinner, where alumni from many generations shared their stories.

One of the most powerful came from Diane Peterson ’67, who made history as the first woman of color to join Tri Delta nationally—right here at OWU. Peterson spoke about what it meant to break barriers in Greek life and the lasting impact of being part of the sisterhood.

“It was incredible to see so many generations of Tri Deltas come back and share how this sisterhood has shaped their lives,” said current member Madelyn Browning. “The stories we heard reminded us that what we’re a part of is much bigger than ourselves.”

Kappa Kappa Gamma’s Rho Deuteron chapter also put together a meaningful celebration. Members started with a service project, making blankets for those in need, before spending the rest of the weekend at Homecoming events like volleyball, football, and cheer.

“One of my favorite parts was seeing alumnae and active members working side by side,” said current member Jenna Ashbrook. “It reminded us that being a Kappa doesn’t end after graduation—it’s for life.”

The centennial celebrations showed how deeply rooted both sororities are at OWU and how their values of service, leadership, and friendship continue to carry forward. Whether through philanthropy, leadership, or lifelong friendship, Tri Delta and Kappa Kappa Gamma are ready to carry their legacies into the next 100 years.
