Temporary Philosophy Department Library to Open Soon!

A large donation of over 500 books was made to Ohio Wesleyan students by Professor Clifford Hurst.

These books contain various works from countless notable philosophical authors. These works also contain several theological pieces as well.

These books also have a sentimental value and were very important to Hurst.

“The books were given to me by the late Dr. Rem B. Edwards, PhD.,” he said. “I miss his guidance and mentorship but I am grateful that his collection can live on in the hands and minds of OWU students.”

With an upcoming change of residence, he felt it was the right time to part with his vast collection.

With so many new books for students to read, the philosophy department is looking to create a small temporary library to showcase the new collection. The library will be located in the offices of Phillips Hall and will be available for all students to access and borrow from.

Erin Flynn, a philosophy professor who is helping to set up the library, explained the current state of the book collection.

“They will, for the time being, be housed in a philosophy office, and students will be able to peruse them and take anything that they wish,” he said. “We don't intend for them to be a permanent departmental library, and students are free to keep the books they take.”

Professors within the philosophy department and students within the organization are currently working on setting up the library as soon as possible. It will likely be ready to borrow or take from within the coming weeks.

Students have already expressed their excitement about the donation of books.

“With that many books, I feel like just about anyone could find something they like,” a philosophy student, Ashley Hayward, said. “I’ll definitely check it out when it's set up”

Philosophy, religion, and avid readers alike should keep their eyes open for the opening of the collection.
