Want to travel the world and experience other cultures? Ohio Wesleyan University’s study abroad program offers that opportunity. Talking with students who have studied abroad and those planning to provides valuable insight.
Lisa Ho, director of international and off-campus programs, is the person to meet about studying abroad. Ho says the future is bright for students pursuing this path.
“Our projected enrollment for Fall 2026 is up 39% from Fall 2025. We also expect to take twice as many students on travel learning courses next year compared to this year.”
Studying abroad can be expensive, so Ho is working to make it more affordable.
“We continue to revisit our funding model to identify programs with an affordable price that maximize OWU financial aid. To that goal, we developed a new tiered pricing model launching this fall,” said Ho.
Brianna Colangelo studied in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in the fall of 2025. She focused on business studies in social entrepreneurship, traveled to many cities, and made lifelong friends. Traveling alone can be intimidating, so hearing Colangelo’s first impression was insightful.
“It felt exciting and a little overwhelming at first. The city’s energy, the bikes everywhere, and so many languages made it feel refreshing.”
Studying abroad is about connections and experiences. She explained how she built friendships.
“By being open to new experiences, exploring the city, traveling, and spending time with people also navigate life abroad. I didn’t go with anyone I knew, so I made a new group of friends and explored new countries together.”
Luca DiCarlo, a sophomore international business major and lacrosse player, is preparing to study abroad. His major requires time abroad, which is an amazing way to deepen his studies. But he has concerns about missing team time.
“I’d be nervous about missing memories with my team for a semester. Playing time isn’t guaranteed, so I’d feel pressure to meet our standards while away.”
DiCarlo is moving forward with OWU’s support.
“I’ve been approved by the school and nearly completed my application to the University of Barcelona.”
