Horizons hosts Lunar New Year celebration

The Lunar New Year event hosted by Horizons, a student club that celebrates the cultures from students around the globe, was very well received by campus.

The event had great attendance, with President vandenBerg, his wife Melissa, and their two children attending. The event took place on Saturday, February 10, 2024 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

The event had different stations of activities to participate in including: lantern-painting, animal zodiac tattoos, a tea ceremony, food, traditional book mark making, and a dance performance with a dragon consume. Students are still chatting about their enjoyment of the event even a couple weeks after it happened.

Senior Annabel Benes shares that the event was “interactive and had educational components. She gained a lot of knowledge about the background of the event and what symbols and colors are important to the celebration.” Benes also shared that her favorite experience of the event was watching the lion and dragon dance.

This event was an educational and fun way for students to learn and engage with another culture. Horizons puts on great events for the campus. Hopefully this event will return to campus for the 2025 Lunar New Year with how big of a hit it was.
