At Ohio Wesleyan University, Greek Life continues to play an active role in shaping campus culture and student involvement. With five sorority chapters and six fraternity chapters, the Greek community at OWU brings together students through leadership, service, and friendship.
Sorority recruitment takes place each spring, while fraternities host recruitment during both semesters. Although the process can be exciting and fast-paced, many students say the real value of Greek Life comes after Bid Day—when the focus shifts from joining to building lasting connections.
“I didn’t know much about Greek Life before I came to OWU,” said sophomore Tessa Koenig, a member of Delta Delta Delta. “But once I joined, I found a group of people who genuinely support me. It’s made my college experience a lot more meaningful.”
Each chapter on campus has its own philanthropy, giving students opportunities to participate in service projects and fundraising events throughout the year. From local community outreach to national initiatives, philanthropy is a central part of what it means to be Greek at OWU.
“I really like that each house gives back in a different way,” said junior Madelyn Browning. “We all work with different causes, but everyone’s goal is to make a positive impact.”
In addition to service, Greek Life offers students leadership roles within their chapters and across campus, as well as a built-in support system for academics and personal growth. Members often highlight the balance between friendship and responsibility that comes with being part of a chapter.
“Greek Life gives you a lot of chances to step up,” said senior Reagan Brake, vice president of her chapter. “It’s helped me build confidence, manage my time, and work with people who have different perspectives.”
With a long history at Ohio Wesleyan, Greek Life remains an important part of campus involvement for many students. Whether through social events, service work, or lifelong friendships, joining a fraternity or sorority offers a way to connect and contribute to the OWU community.
