As fall is here, both Delaware, Ohio, and Ohio Wesleyan University offer plenty of ways to enjoy the season. From campus traditions to local spots around town, fall is one of the best times of year to get out and explore.
One of the easiest—and most popular—options is just taking in the scenery. OWU’s campus is full of beautiful trees that turn shades of red and gold, making a walk to class feel like it is straight out of a magazine. Students can also go to Blue Limestone Park, just a short walk from campus, for hiking trails, lakes, and a quiet escape from classes.
Downtown Delaware is another go-to in the fall. The Saturday morning farmers market goes through the season, with fresh baked goods to enjoy throughout the week. “It’s one of the best ways to spend a Saturday morning,” said senior Avery Curtin. “You get great food, and it’s fun to see so many people from both OWU and the community.”
Sports are a big part of fall on campus, too. Football at Selby Stadium brings out crowds, and volleyball and soccer matches are great chances for students to cheer on the Battling Bishops.
Off campus, downtown Delaware offers plenty to do on a chilly day. Coffee shops like Coffeeology and Fresh Start are popular for seasonal drinks, and the Strand Theatre is a favorite for movie nights. Students with cars often make weekend trips to nearby pumpkin patches or fall festivals for hayrides, corn mazes, and fall treats.
“Fall here is short, but it’s one of the best times to be at OWU,” said senior Lily Bechina. “There’s so much going on, and the weather just makes you want to be outside with friends.”
Whether it’s exploring Delaware, supporting campus sports, or just enjoying the trees on the JayWalk, fall gives OWU students plenty of ways to make memories before winter arrives.
