What’s Ahead for the Health & Human Kinetics Student Board

The Health & Human Kinetics Student Board is preparing for another year of promoting health, wellness, and student involvement for the 2026-27 school year. The board’s student representatives will be working to make sure their peers have a voice and the support needed within the department, along with events, social media posts, and faculty evaluations.

While hosting events may be one of the board’s more visible responsibilities, much of its work happens behind the scenes. Student representatives assist with faculty evaluations, advising, website reviews and social media promotion. Through these responsibilities, board members can provide student perspectives while gaining experience working with faculty, staff and other students.

Christopher Fink, a professor within the department, emphasizes how student involvement is especially important and valued. Knowing the faculty along with your peers can help with building meaningful connections.

“Even though we are now a large department, in terms of students, we have always hoped to have a sense of community among all of our students,” Fink said.

For many undergraduate students, getting involved in their future career can feel like a difficult first step. Becoming involved early can help them discover opportunities they may not know about. Shadowing, networking, and gaining hands-on experience are important steps toward understanding a potential career.

Keion Stevens ‘28 is a new board member bringing his own experience with shadowing and making professional connections to the board. He hopes to help other students, particularly undergraduates, in taking that first step.

“I’m excited to be part of an organization where I can develop my leadership skills, work with a team, and help other students along the way.”

The board chair, Camryn Brunner, is also looking forward to creating more opportunities for students to become involved. She hopes to host events throughout the year, including activities around exam week. She also wants to promote opportunities for students to connect with one another and the department.

“Our aim is to make involvement more accessible for Health and Human Kinetic students, and to create a stronger bridge between students and their future careers,” Brunner ‘27.
