Spring practice has officially begun for the Bishops, signaling a fresh start and renewed expectations. With last season now in the rear-view mirror, head coach Tom Watts and the staff are focused on development and competition for the team.
‘Spring Ball’, as it is referred to, started on March 23rd. The team practices three days per week and engages in weight training three days per week. The team has five weeks of early mornings and late nights to get on the right track before summer. Football teams at the division three level are not allowed to have in-person workouts throughout the summer, meaning this spring camp has an even higher importance.
This five-week camp is the last time the team will practice together until August, when fall camp starts.
Competition has been a major emphasis throughout the first week of practice, with players battling for starting roles. The increased intensity and fatigue cause leaders to step forward, leading the team through the difficult stretch of spring. The Bishops look to build a tougher, more disciplined identity heading into fall.
Beyond the on-field competition, the coaching staff is focused on building chemistry and accountability across the roster. With the long summer break ahead, establishing strong habits and communication now is crucial.
Players are expected to carry what they learn this spring into their individual offseason training, where no coach is there to push players to be better. By the end of this spring camp, the goal is for the team to clear up the depth chart and also build a stronger foundation that will carry into the fall.
