New Microbiology Club Launches at OWU
A new club has emerged at OWU this year for microbiology majors, students interested in microbiology, and anyone looking to meet new people. The club, MicroOWU, welcomes all students regardless of academic background.
Students created MicroOWU to provide a space for students who want to become more involved in microbiology and connect with others who share similar interests. The club’s President is Kaylee Lusk ’29 and the faculty advisor Dr. T-R.
According to Lusk, the club's primary goal is to build a community for students interested in the field. “We want to connect people who enjoy microbiology and provide a space to share ideas,” she said.
In addition, MicroOWU wants to help students develop professional connections. Members can interact with faculty members, including Dr. T-R and other professors in the sciences, while learning more about careers and opportunities within the field.
MicroOWU meets every other Monday from 12:30 to 1 p.m. in Room 163 of the Schimmel/Conrades Science Center. The club's first meeting featured microbiology-themed trivia. Its next meeting, scheduled for Sept. 21, will include a shrink plastic activity.
Students interested in joining MicroOWU can follow the club on Instagram at micr_owu_club for updates on upcoming meetings and events. You can find a link to the club's GroupMe on the Instagram page.
