The Ohio Wesleyan Connection Conference is an event to prepare students for the real world. Happening only once a semester, students have the day off from classes to go to events that appeal to their specific interests.
On Thursday, February 26th, OWU will host its bi-annual Connection Conference to allow students to explore interests. Students are able to educate themselves on opportunities, as well as present their experiences to their peers.
Newton Kimberly, Career Catalyst in the Career Connection Office, has seen the positive impact the Connection Conference has had on students.
“The value of this experience is incredibly high and can help students determine what they want to do with their future after they graduate,” Kimberly said.
If you are struggling with choosing which events to attend, Kimberly suggests going out of your comfort zone.
“If something feels like you have interest, but it feels out of reach? Go to that conference session. Even if you know this isn't what I want to do full-time, but maybe as a hobby or interest. Go to that conference session,” Kimberly said.
Students also get the opportunity to present their internships, abroad trips, or research. Junior Grace Gagne looks forward to presenting on how involvement opportunities can be available regardless of your major.
“I think it is a really good opportunity for students to learn about perspective, opportunities, and activities that they can participate in,” said Gagne.
Everyone should take advantage of the unique experiences provided at the Connection Conference to better their understanding of potential careers and pathways they can take.
